Fall is the most popular time of year to get married, and with good reason. The leaves are changing color, the weather is cooler and more comfortable, and the overall ambiance is simply romantic. If you have a wedding to attend this fall, chances are you’re wondering what to wear. Never fear! We’ve put together a guide of fall wedding guest dresses by dress code to help you out. So whether the wedding you’re attending is black tie, white tie, formal, or semi-formal, I’ve got you covered.
What do I wear to a White Tie Wedding?
White tie is the most formal of all the dress codes – think big ball gown, dinner at the palace type of event. If you’re lucky enough to get an invite to a white tie wedding, go all out with a floor-length gown in a luxurious fabric like velvet or satin. Pair it with your most formal fur/wool coat and most extravagant jewels.
This pink pleated gown is a stunner (PSA: needs hemming if you’re petite!) I do think this might be on the understated side of my usual interpretation of white tie, but I couldn’t resist this satin pleat number.
What do I wear to a Black Tie Wedding?
For black tie weddings, think evening gowns and elegant long dresses. This is the time to break out that little black dress you’ve been dying to wear or go for something a little more festive with a sequined gown. For the cooler season, I would pair with a tweed jacket with gold buttons for a classy touch. I’m also wearing matching blue crystal stud earrings, but some drop earrings would also be amazing with the thin strapped square neck.
What do I wear to a Formal Wedding?
Formal dress code is slightly less formal than white tie but still requires an elegant outfit. A cocktail dress or evening gown will do the trick here. A high-low detail like this dress I’m wearing is a good option! I also love organza fabric for all things formal and feminine. An open back is flirty and fun and can be paired with a fur wrap in the fall season.
What do I wear to a Semi-Formal Wedding?
This is probably the most common dress code for weddings. You can wear midi to maxi dresses for this dress code. In the fall, I would pair with a crop jacket to keep warm. Or opt for a wool coat if it’s winter time.
I paired this cute floral midi number with an adorable tweed jacket. It’s the perfect feminine look that’s dressy without being over-dressed for a semi-formal wedding.
So there you have it! A fall wedding guest dress guide by dress code. I hope this was helpful and that you feel confident and stylish at your next fall wedding!
