I’m excited to share this review and how I care for my Goyard Saint Louis PM tote bag today. I’ve had it since my birthday around early March (so over 9 months now) and it’s been my go-to every day tote. I have it in the color White, which I think is rare and unique. I love it and I know it’s going to be a great bag for many years to come!
How I purchased my Goyard tote and the price
I noticed that Goyard does not do any e-commerce business. They don’t have a website where you can purchase online. You can purchase Goyard from online consignment websites or third party re-sellers, but not directly from Goyard. They do not have a physical Goyard location here in Denver, Colorado either. So I did my research and found that you can call a specific store, purchase the bag via phone and have them ship it to your home address.
I called the Goyard Highland Park Village in Dallas, set up a money wire transfer account with Goyard (the fee is $35), and purchased the bag for $1595. The shipping charge is $25. So in total overall, I paid $1655 for the bag. Notice I did not pay sales tax for the bag as there is no physical Goyard store in Colorado. One quick thing to note as well if you’re planning to purchase Goyard via phone order is your first purchase will include the $35 to set up a money wire account with them. I was told it’s a one time fee, so shouldn’t occur again on any purchase with Goyard after that. And you will also have to wire them money from a debit/savings account. Meaning, no credit card.
The dimension
The bag has dimension 13.25in length of the base of the bag, 5.5in depth of the base of the bag, and 10.5in height of the bag without the handle. The handle drop is 7in. As I searched online, some sources say 11″ W x 19″ H x 6″ D but those don’t match up to what I see when I measure my own bag. So I gave you both measurements.
The bag fits plenty for every day wear. I am able to fit snugly my 15inch laptop inside without a laptop case cover. Since the base of the bag is wider, with the laptop, there’s still room for other essentials like keys, phone, wallet, etc. I wouldn’t use this particular size for my 15inch laptop however. Since I want to make sure I can put on a laptop case, I would use a bigger sized bag, or would only use this PM size for a smaller laptop or a tablet.
I do use my Goyard bag on a daily basis. In which I have a bag organizer, my phone, wallet, keys, face mask, hand sanitizer, sunglasses, you name it. And the bag is a great size!
Why I love my Goyard Saint Louis tote
It is such an incredible every-day tote bag. Even in the white color, which is daring and does take a little extra care and attention to keep it clean. I wear this bag daily, and really enjoy not having to carry so much bulk. Here are the reasons why I love my St Louis PM tote:
- This Goyard tote is easily the lightest bag I’ve ever owned. I have switched to other totes on different occasions, and every time, I would miss the light Goyard bag. That makes it a very practical tote to wear on the daily. I love running errands with it. Roomy enough, but without the bulk or the weight.
- The Goyard signature canvas material not only is lightweight, but also waterproof and durable. This bag is sure going to last a life time, and a great investment bag.
- The Saint Louis tote is easy to wear. The top handle drop is nice and roomy, to make the bag into a shoulder bag. It can also be carried in your hands, or in the crook of your arm.
- It comes with a small matching removable pouch/wallet to hold credit cards and cash. Convenient to use, and can be removed to take into the store with you. This is a nice addition to the tote bag.
What I don’t love about the Goyard Saint Louis tote
If you’ve never owned a lightweight canvas bag before, and are not familiar with the Goyard signature canvas material, I do think you would feel underwhelmed with the material and the lack of structure of the bag. The canvas is thin and the bag does not sit up on its own. In addition, the handles do not stay held up. In order to add a little structure to this bag, I suggest using a bag organizer to give it shape.
Another thing that could be a dealbreaker for some people is how the bag doesn’t include any zipper. Sometimes, I wish there was a way to zip up the bag, or cinch it for privacy. Especially when you are in a busy downtown area, or on a crowded bus, I can see someone being able to reach into the bag without you noticing. I try to use a crossbody type bag instead of my Goyard when I go to a busy street for that reason so it’s attached to my hip and in my sight at all time.
How I care for my Goyard tote
If you know me, I am so careful with all my bags. Especially if it’s a designer bag, I’m extra careful. I cringe when I see a designer bag on the ground at a public place. I cringe when I see a bag is crushed out of its original shape. Yes, I understand that it’s just a bag and that you should enjoy wearing it. Paying attention to the bag every moment would make you miserable. If you’re not one to worry about caring for every single detail, feel free to skip this section. However, I do think the bag’s value is dependent on its condition and its condition is dependent on how you care for it. So I say enjoy your bag, but if you can, take good care of it too!
Here are some things I do to take care of my white Goyard, keep the bag white, and keep the bag in its original shape.
Use a bag organizer
A bag organizer, besides organizing your items, serves two other purposes: it keeps the inside of your bag clean (from pen marks, lipstick stains, or any accidental spills), and it keeps the bag in its shape so the canvas doesn’t stress or crush.
I use this organizer for my bag, I do wish it was taller to cover more of the height of the bag. But overall, I love using it. It keeps the inside of my bag clean, organized and gives the bag structure.
Give it care and love
I’m pretty careful with my bag. I don’t ever set my bag on the floor in a public place. I either set in on my lap, on another chair or hold it. I know that maybe excessive and sometimes not possible to do, but I try unless I can’t help it.
No exposing the bag to direct sunlight or heat for a long period of time.
No exposing the bag to sharp objects. If you must carry something sharp, make sure to wrap the object first. Corners of a hard cover heavy book over a period of time could potentially puncture the material if the book is rubbing against your bag.
If you must carry a pen, marker, or lipstick, anything that could stain the bag, make sure it’s properly capped, and/or put in a separate enclosed case. The bag organizer I mentioned above could protect some, but keep in mind, if it’s a lot of staining liquid, it could still soak through the organizer and into the inside of your bag.
To clean the surface dirt, I use dry, clean cloth. And if you spill something on the bag, be sure to clean in a dabbing motion and the sooner the better.
How I store my Goyard Saint Louis tote
The canvas material needs some rest time. If you wear this tote every day, be sure to put your bag away when you come home, and let it rest. Here is how I store my bag:
- If you’re not using the bag for a long time, I suggest using its dust bag that it comes with. Or any non-plastic dust bag should do.
- For regular use, I store my Goyard with the bag organizer in it, soft paddings on top of the organizer. Soft paddings could be a bag stuffer, a paper towel roll, or a rolled up lightweight old sweater. The top handles then cross each other. No bending, no creasing on the handles. Put the bag like that on a flat shelf, in a dry place.
Overall, I love my Goyard tote. Like I mentioned, I wear this bag on a daily basis. It’s lightweight, it’s roomy. And even though it is a designer bag, I do think it’s more subtle, and not a flashy bag.
Here are some Goyard Saint Louis bag options I found from third party resellers. I suggest buying directly from Goyard as it is actually cheaper than market value, but if for whatever reason, you can’t do that, here are some options below:
