^^ Blogger brunch
Blogging has been a wild ride for me with many ups and downs. But overall I’ve been enjoying it greatly. I started out blogging as a hobby, something I did for fun but now it has become a part time job. Can I even call it a job if I love doing it so much? And I don’t have a quick way to list the things I love about blogging. So get comfortable, this post is going to be a long one. Here are the things I love about blogging:
Blogging is my personal therapy
I haven’t shared much about this here, only with friends who know me personally. I have a full time job as a software engineer. And I work from home as my team is in Texas while I reside in Colorado. You may think that’s weird, but working remote has become more and more common in tech field and a lot of people on my team do it.
But there’s goods and bads in working from home. The obvious advantage is you work at the comfort of your home. You can do so rolling out of bed, still in your pajamas with messy hair and stinky breath and no one would even know or care. But many might not know why this could become a bad thing. I work at home, so I don’t socialize in person with anyone but my two dogs. I don’t have a reason to change out of my pajamas (as well as to fix my hair and put on makeup). And being a girly girl who likes to dress up, this kills me.
So I decided that I would get up, get dressed as I would go to an office but instead sit at my desk at home. But that was still not a good enough solution for me. I felt like I was “waisting” my pretty clothes and good lipstick since no one was going to see my #ootd (besides my two dogs). For that reason I decided to blog. I don’t get pretty every single day. But on the days I shoot pictures for the blog, I’m excited to get dolled up. And I get to share the looks with you guys and am not just wearing lipstick for my dogs!
That’s how this blog keeps me from going insane. I now have good reasons to get dolled up a couple times a week. You never would have guessed getting dressed could make someone feel so useful and happy.
Blogging introduces me to the best of friends
Denver has the best blogging community. I’ve heard stories about bloggers in other cities and states who are not as nice and supportive of each other. I’m just so blessed to be a part of this Denver blogging scene where each single girl I’ve met is the sweetest and most supportive. So naturally we all hit it off and become friends. It is always so fun every time I get to work with them on a blog project.
And this circles back to my mentioned above personal therapy. Blogging adds a new social life to my boring days, especially since I’m new to Denver. I had no family and friends here to start with. Now I attend events with these blogger babes, host our own blogger brunches, go shopping, take blog photos for each other. And let me tell you, having girls who all love taking pictures of our food before we eat, don’t mind talking about dresses and shoes for hours, agree to retake selfies together 20 times is huge for me. I studied computer science in college, so I didn’t have a lot of girlfriends, leave alone have girly girlfriends. I couldn’t be happier with this circle of friends.
Blogging challenges and inspires
Blogging means writing, of one form or another: blog post, Instagram caption, Facebook post, Twitter tweets. Even just a single emoji on an Instagram caption is writing, and writing requires creativity.
Blogging means putting together a good photograph. Sure, a blogger may have a photographer to take photos of her, but she has to come up with a vision for the shoot. What is the theme of this post, what story is she telling through the visual? And this requires creativity.
For this reason, blogging challenges me to come up with product flat lay shots, putting a story in each post I write or picture I take. Blogging challenges my creativity in good ways, and it is never a bad idea to improve your creativity.
To inspire myself, I’ve picked up habits like reading books, listening to music, studying photography, etc. I learn something new every day, and it makes me feel good. Like Oscar Wilde says, you can never be over dressed or over educated. And see, with this blog, I will always try to dress better and learn more.
So if you are a blogger, share with me what do you love most about blogging?

My compliments, I didn’t know you are an engineer. I have to go to the office every day, it’s hard because it takes 1 hour to get there downtown Milan, but I can speak with my colleagues and that helps. So I understand you well and appreciate a lot this sweet,, wonderful post 🙂

We have such a similar life haha. I work in tech as well and can work from home if I want to. I only work from home once a week and usually I used that day to catch up on blog stuff. I do enjoy going in to the office because I feel like when I’m at home I don’t get much done ;).
Blogging has definitely been my creative outlet and I’ve made some really cool friends!

I’m a stay at home mom who’s used to going into the office and being around other people so I can relate to you in some ways about lacking socializing with others. I decided to start blogging because like you, I enjoy being creative and there are so many friendly people in the blogging community! I’m still new to blogging and look forward to forming new friendships and opportunities!

Lily, I simply LOVE this post b/c I can relate in so many ways. For one, I work from home as well, so I know how tough it can be feeling as though you’re not as social as everyone else, so it was comforting to see you share that, too! Everyone thinks it’s the absolute best when you mention you work form home, for the reasons you’ve mentioned, but it can be challenging and so, like you, blogging is a great outlet! I, unfortunately, haven’t encountered many supportive bloggers in person that have become personal friends. I live in NY and so everything and nearly everyone is super competitive about everything, especially fashion! I’ve attended events where I had intentions of truly connecting with other like minded women, only to be given dirty looks and gazes. It’s true what they say, living in NY requires tough skin! If only I can meet all of you awesome ladies I’ve had the pleasure of “meeting” and interact with on a regular basis online in person. Perhaps that’ll happen someday, you never know! Thank so much for sharing and I hope you have a wonderful week, beauty!

Denver is a city I would love to live in someday! I love blogging because 1) it motivates me to try and look more put together in everyday life!! That’s such a lovely post, with the confessions, I really liked that and what you said about blogging! I am very glad that you now dress up more often and meet new friends, although your dogs are good friends too! I know what you mean – although I leave home, sometimes when I stay I wear a colorful skirt and a T-shirt and I like it too, but not often, of course. You are doing it so well and you look lovely – I loved your dress and braid! Hope you have a great evening!

Wonderful post on your blogging life! I used to live in Boulder so I’m bummed we couldn’t enjoy our blogging journey together. Blogging for me is also a part-time job but something that fuels my soul. I love the creative side just like you do. Love this dress you are wearing and dying over the accessories. Have a wonderful day Lily!

Thank you so much for this post, Lily Rose! Such inspiration. I just moved to Denver from New York City this year, and I also work remotely from home, and started blogging about by life here to get myself motivated to do things and entice all my East Coast friends to come visit. This post gives me hope that I too will meet and make great friends here in my new hometown, and have some IRL fun!
Lily Rose says
Ah welcome to Denver! I’m so glad and thankful for you to stop by my blog. Please stay in touch and maybe I’ll get to meet you some day.

I really like this post. I just started blogging this year and can relate to so much of what you’ve said. Although I work a photographer, a lot of the work can be just me at home on my computer editing. And after a while just living in your gym gear feels yuck! It’s amazing what pick me up getting dressed up is. Also it’s great to have my own creative outlet that is not client based work. Blogging is also helping me to push myself creatively and fine tune my skills in writing, visual storytelling and coming up with new concepts and ideas. I just need to get more a part of the blogging community now and meet more people.
