Christmas is so close! I had to travel last week for some family business and missed all the snow that came over the weekend. But it made coming home to decorate for the holidays and cuddle with the two pups that much better.
I’m partnering with McCafé today to introduce you to the Danish concept of hygge (pronounced hoo-ga). This concept has made its way into the U.S. And it is incredibly popular in long winters. The word hygge loosely translates into coziness. One can embrace hygge by cozying up in blankets to read a good book, engaging in conversation over candlelight. Or enjoying a warm drink by the fire. It’s getting back to the little things that make cold and long winters more relaxing and fun! I have tons of presents to wrap this year since my parents and sister are coming into town. So hygge for me is cuddling up with the pups in my PJs, drinking a cup of McCafé French Vanilla Latte while gift wrapping by our Christmas tree.
Are you making the best of this winter? What is your own version of hygge?

I’m from Denmark myself, and I love that the word “hygge” is spreading to the world!
The word means a lot of things – but truth be told, it’s mostly about alkohol 😉 Hygge is sitting with friends, around a meal with some red wine. Hygge is the chat between friends, with some wine. Hygge in christmas is siting inside by the fire, with a glass of Gløgg (mulled wine) Hygge is many things, but mostly it’s alkohol, haha :p
I love this post, dear. And your pictures do really look “hyggelige”.

This post is so festive! I love it.
McDonalds isn’t my go to place for coffee to be honest. Its funny how they brought in the “danish” concept. Im from sweden and my hygge – pronounced hyggae with a high note on the y and ae (ä). I would love to lit up the fireplace, drink hot chocolate and stay under a blanket.

I love how the world has embraced the Danish hygge. Living in neighbouring Sweden this is nothing new to us, but something I’ve basically grown up with and it’s hard to explain what it actually means. It’s more a feeling than what you actually do. But it does basically come down to coziness and having a good time. 🙂
